The White Horse of Alih (Analysis)

Setting: A parade in july 4

Characters:
Alih - a moro who plans to kill the people in the parade
Omar - older brother of Alih
Fermina - a bar maid
Lim Ching - Chinese merchant
Sampang - a mountain warrior
Imam - a village priest
Lucy - a girl who lived in the reservation area where the Americans live

Complication: When they decide to become a merchants. The rebels stole their commodities.

Conflict: Alih did not want to kill but the fear he had for his brother urged him to kill and also because his brother taught him that killing is the way to remove their shame and have respect from their father had died  by american soldiers with no reason.

Rising Action: When Alih realized the girl he helped in the float was Fermina.

Climax: As he was about to hold her completely, Omar came but to his surprise, he was drunk. All along, he realized that Omar had been drinking tuba. Omar was about to kill Fermina.

Falling Action: Alih kills his brother despite their plans to gain the white horse for him to protect Fermina.

Theme: About traditions,beliefs and faith of Filipinos.

Summary: "White horse of Alih" tells the story of Alih, and his older brother omar, as they try to get back tehmselves from being robbed of their prized possesion. And they decide that the only way to remove the shame from themselves is to cleanse their body.prepare themselves for burial,and kill someone. Omar believes that allah will send white horses for them to be carried to a paradise.

And in July 4 there is a parade in plaza. And before they do the plan, Alih remembered the three women who have made a big part of his life, Lucy a american girl that he met in his first grade, Fermina, a barmaid that he flirted while he's drunk before he was jailed for 6 months, and the girl from balete that made him lost his virginity.

And Alih saw a girl on top of a float at the back of the parade. And as the float became closer, he compared to girl to Fermina. And suddenly Omar rampages around the plaza and killed anyone who is on his way. As Omar go near the girl, Alih runs and saved the girl and killed Omar. And he was arrested by the authorities.
