The White Horse Of Alih (Analysis)

Setting:
The story happened on the fourth of July, the big American holiday in a city with a parade of people.

Character:
Alih- was a Moro, a non-Christian who plans for killing the people in the parade.
Omar- The older brother of Alih
Fermina-Christian girl who served drinks at the night market with a black mole on a corner of her mouth.
Imam- The village priest.
Lucy- Childhood friend of Alih and the first first girl Alih like.
Lim Ching- a rich Chinese merchant.

Plot:
Conflict- Alih was hesitating to kill, but he grow up together with his brother who taught him and believed that killing will be their way to wash away their shame and gain respect for their father’s death because of the American soldier who kill him without any reasons.

Complication-When they decided to become merchants.

Climax- Omar came and he was drunk and was about to kill Fermina.

Rising Action- Alih saw a girl in the float and he thought that she is Fermina. He went near the float and found out that it is Fermina when he saw black mole on the corner of the girl's mouth.

Falling Action- Alih killed his brother just to protect Fermina.

Theme: simply based on the religion, tradition, beliefs and faith of the Filipinos.

Summary Text:
Whatever religion or beliefs we have, it doesn't affects or choose whom we love. This story tells about the two brothers who finding justice for killing their father without any reasons. Omar taught his brother that the only way to wash off their shame and sin is through killing. As a reward, White Horse will their ride to heaven. At the end of the story Alih killed his brother Omar despite their plans to gain the white horse and protect Fermina. Love is full of sacrifices.
