Characters:
o Alih-  A moro, non-Christian, who plans for killing the people celebrating the
   Filipino-American Friendship day.
o Omar – The older brother of Alih
o Imam – The village priest who tried to dissuade the two brothers
o Lucy –she is the first girl Alih liked
o Fermina – a beautiful bar maid with a mole near her mouth, Alih likes her so much but the woman doesn’t like
him because of his impertinent manner towards her.
-Setting: A big American holiday with huge parade, 4th of July
Plot:
-Exposition:  Alih was looking for his brother, Omar. That day was intended for them to fulfil their plan. Their
plan is to kill the people in the parade.
-Rising Action: He saw a float with a girl whom he thought of as Fermina.
-Climax: He was about to hold Fermina completely but Omar came drunk and he was about to kill Fermina.
-Falling Action: Aih killed Omar to protect Fermina.
-Resolution: After the incident, some people said that Alih became insane that’s why he killed his brother.
-Theme/s:  The short story tells about the tradition, beliefs and faith of the Filipinos
-Literary approach used: Historical Approach
-Analysis: the story examines discrimination based on race and religion.  He killed his own brother, Omar, the
one who taught him of wrong doings and lies to protect Fermina.
