The White Horse of Alih (Analysis) Empty The White Horse of Alih (Analysis)

Post by Ponteres, Kimberly Gem Sun Jul 31, 2016 9:12 am

Characters:

Alih- The protagonist who moved along the crowd which was celebrating the fourth of July celebration.
Omar- The older brother of Alih who happened to be a dictator brother because he always dictates Alih on what to do
in every aspect of his life.
Lucy- She is the first girl liked who lived in the reservation area where the americans live.
Fermina-  A gorgeous bar maid with a mole near her mouth. Alih likes her so much but the woman doesn't like him.
Imam- The village priest who tried to dissuade the two brothers.

Setting:

The story happened on the fourth of July in a city with a parade of people.

Plot:

Exposition: When Alih thinks if he is going to kill or not.
Rising Action: Alih saw a float with a girl whom he thought of as Fermina. He went near the float and guide the
girl to go down to the ground and he found out that it is the girl he is looking for because of the little black mole
near the girl's mouth.
Climax: As Alih was about to hold Fermina, his brother Omar came in and about to kill the girl.
Falling Action: As Alih's brother came in and about to kill Fermina, he have the argue to protect the girl from his brother.
Resolution: Alih decided to kill his own brother to protect Fermina despite of their plans to gain the white horse.

Theme:

The story simply tells about the beliefs, faith and tradition of the Filipino's.

Literary Approach used:

Historical Approach: The setting of the story happened on the fourth of July in a city with a parade of people. The
author might experience this big event in the history wherein the fourth of July is considered as the Filipino-American
Friendship Day.This may influence his work in The White Horse of Alih.

Analysis:

"No faith or tradition tolerates the random killing of our brothers and sisters on this earth"
If Omar, the brother of Alih doesn't taught him that by killing they can wash their shame away, Maybe Alih won't have
the argue to kill his own brother just to protect Fermina at the end of the story because Alih is not that bad at all.Omar
is the one who influence his mind as well as his life because Omar dictates everything about his life. The two brothers
have their own beliefs but since Alih choose his feelings over brain he haven't think right and he did the wrong thing.
